Japan and It’s Earthquakes

As some of you will know Japan experienced a large earthquake, followed by a Tsunami and multiple wild fires on January 1, 2024. Needless to say it was a most unfortunate way to start the New Year. Forecasters are saying that the Earthquakes will continue for at least a week, which adds difficulty to recovery work. Today for example there were multiple quakes larger then 4.0.

Japan is not foreign to Earthquakes so their response and adaptability is well experienced.

This has put a thought in my mind; should we be prepared for more?

So after the first major quake hit I did what any paranoid person would do, contact my insurance company to verify coverage and ensure that we were covered. And we are. Then I started to think about other things like, food, water etc.

Personally at least as of right now, I’m not worried about our perishable items as if the power were to fail then we’d have enough snow around our house to keep food cold for a long long time. And as far as heating goes, most of our heaters operate off of small batteries and / or fuel so we are okay there. What I am worried about is drinking water (although I can melt snow) and electricity.

The main reason is communication. I just want to be able to contact our family to let them know we are okay.

I would say that I am as prepared as I can be without having a doomsday bunker. And I really hope that there ISNT a time were we need to use the emergency supplies but it’s better to be ready then not.

Watching the response videos and what not of the quake disaster made me realize that “help” may not be able to reach you for days or weeks. So being as self reliant as possible is key.

This kind of reconfirms that reason why i’d like to have a farm and be “off grid”. Is a diaster were to happen and if our farm survived of course we could rely on ourselves and have power to communicate with our family.

I’m also thinking of switching to satellite internet using Starlink but still doing research.

All in all, I hope that you all take small steps to be ready for any disasters. I’m not talking about doomsday prepping but just small items like flashlights, a little food, some water and perhaps a radio or something to keep you informed.

SO lets hope the earth calms down a little….

Until the next one
