Working from Home

Since starting Koji Media and Koji Living our work environment has changed. We no longer have a “destination” or office to go to every morning. It’s get up, get ready and sit at our desk or coffee table. But are there any struggles of working in such a comfortable space? Yeah.

Being that our home is an office, our personal space and the space that we entertain, we had to find balance in how we used each room. And as such, keeping the house clean, organized etc, is a priority.

So I start my mornings (almost everyday) by mopping, sweeping and picking up what needs to be washed or cleaned. I try my best to get it done so that the day starts off right and I can focus on other things throughout the day that come up.

Initially we found struggle in working from home. Not because of the workload but because of how comfortable it is. It’s so easy to look at your bed and say a nap wouldn’t hurt OR stand in front of the fridge for hours on end looking for snacks. Although the work is the same the dynamic of how you handle your day has most definitely changed.

Personally I try to focus on getting as much work done in the mornings so that the rest of my day can be “relaxed” and I have the ability to move things around more fluidly.

SO waking up early to clean the house/office is a must.

On a normal day I, generally wake up around 5:30A. I start with a cup of water and coffee, head to mopping the floors or sweeping (depending on what needs to be done), wash the dishes if any, start a load of laundry, prepare the ingredients for dinner, care for the puppies and update our social media platforms.

I try to finish most of this by 9:00A as most days thats when we head out to film content or run errands.

THIS dynamic was a change for me, not in regards to time but in regards to trying to get all of it done within that 3ish hour window. IF i am able to get it done the rest of the day normally is a breeze and stress free.

I think the biggest difference between now and when we had a restaurant is the fact that, it was so easy for me to ignore the household things. Essentially as 90% of my time was at work the house could wait. Now that work is at home, it must be done or it just bothers me the entire day.

Is this the same for most people working from home? Luckily I really haven’t come across a lack of motivation but definitely have found distractions where I did not anticipate.

BUT at the end of the day, although incredibly tired; I am happy. I get a sense of fulfillment through the day and know that if I keep following this routine, I would have been productive all day.

Working from home, it has its challenges, its life altering and you’ll have to adapt in your own ways!

Until the next one!
