Theres a Hole in our Driveway

So on December 9th, 2023 our neighbor was having a telephone pole removed from their yard. I’m not sure why but I was asked by the contractor if they could park their truck a large crane type in our driveway. I had no issues with this as they were just trying to get things done and my brother and I were not scheduled to go out anytime soon. I did of course take photos of the truck just incase something happened as the telephone pole had a potential to fall on our house or area.

Luckily I did take a photo as when I went out to get the car ready for our day, I found that a manhole cover in our driveway had been cracked. I assume its due to the weight of the truck that was on it. I contacted the neighbor who in return contacted the contractor who came and inspected.

Originally I thought he would give me a challenge but quickly accepted responsibility. Took some measurements and told me he’d be back on December 18, to fix the problem.

Today after starting a project, I realized someone was in our driveway. Walking outside I found the contractor chiseling away at the snow. I thanked him for coming early. I quickly realized what he had brought wouldn’t work just based off of visual inspection. I think he also realized this fast. Measuring the space several times, going back and forth to the car etc.

He made a call and told me that he would have to have tools brought out to the job site to make the space larger. I told him that we had road heating so please be careful, as breaking that would result in a much much larger job.

I am happy that he came to resolve the issue and I’m so happy they honored their mistake but I do find it a little funny that the issue arose where the part they ordered was not right.

So now i’m sitting in my office watching the cameras occasionally to see if anything is being done. I feel a little sorry for the man as he’s sitting in the snow waiting for more tools but it is what it is. Maybe i’ll take some hot coffee or tea out to him to help him coupe a little easier.

I really do hope he can fix the issue though as the hole in our driveway is almost two feet wide and falling into it or getting stuck with our car would be less then ideal.
