Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Season in Japan

The time of the year has come, SAKURA season! Correlating with the return of students to school, it gives what some would consider a dreary time, new life, optimistic outlooks and a reason to stare out the window and smile.

Something about the delicate flower just seems right. Popping up all over Japan it is, in itself a must see.

The year my brother and I moved to Japan, was in coincidence during Sakura season. It was such a nice welcoming feeling and as such, became a nostalgic time for us.

With the start each Sakura season it reminds me of the start of our Japan journey.

Recently I’ve been looking into the use of Sakura in food, syrups and other edible items. I’m going to attempt to make a Sakura pedal syrup when the trees at our home blossom. I think it’ll have a light flavor similar to the light smell the flower provides.

Recently throughout Japan the wind has also been strong. This has caused another aesthetic of the season. Almost like rain or as a better comparison light falling snow, the pedals due to the wind create this “shower” affect that is both beautiful and something whimsical. Truly a beautiful time to be in Japan.

While I know travel is difficult sometimes for people, myself included, I highly recommend saving to visit during this time of year. I don’t think you’ll regret the investment.

But until such time, please enjoy this picture
