Hiking Lately

The last two days we have been hiking around our town or doing a lot of sightseeing for the fall colors. Yesterday we visited the Heihyokyo Dam in Jozankei, it’s a place we visited when we first moved to Hokkaido so it’s been about two years since we last went. Being honest the first time we visited was kind of towards the end of Covid and most things were closed and not a lot of “things to do” were available.

So this time around it was nice to see the visitor center open with the history of the dam and a lot of photos to go with it. It was also cool to see a few food cars along the dam and on the overlooking area. We opted to get a coffee from one of the vendors who had a Hawaiian name and some Hawaiian designs, but comes to find out the coffee is Colombian, which I have no issues with but it would have been nice to see him use a Hawaii product.

We also ate Mochi and a Corn dog. It was a nice day sitting by the lake / dam, enjoying the Hokkaido fall colors one last time.

I really do love the fact that Japan has a way of making the most serene places, slightly better by adding hardy food and is simple yet flavorful. I have made so many memories around food in Japan and each time I eat a particular thing, it takes me back to that moment.

But as it seems from the car ride to the dam that fall is coming quickly to an end. Many of the trees have lost their leaves and the temperature is dictating COLD!
