Get Lost
Recently my suggested videos on almost all of my social media are things about visiting Japan. Which honestly is good for me as we have so many visitors it helps give me an idea of where to go and what to see, or if there is anything new that I my have missed. And please don’t get me wrong about this, I love these suggestions a lot and some of the best places i’ve visited has been through this type of planning and research.
But I have to advocate for another type of Japan travel and perhaps the type that I personally like the best when it comes to how I explore Japan.
My plan almost always factors in a day or two to get LOST. Yes, I mean it as it sounds. Pick a city, or random location on the map, drive or train to it and explore. One of the best things about Japan is that some of the smallest towns have the biggest spirit and richest culture.
When my brother and I moved to Japan, it was a familiar place in regards to Tokyo as we visited there the most. But when we got our car it was a whole new world, literally.
We got LOST almost every day and it was the best experiences, well most of the time for us. Through these journeys we’ve met amazing people who have shared great stories about their lives and has given us a better insight of how people in Japan truly are. They are, beautiful.
Being that Japan is so contained and for a lot of things incredibly structured, its amazing to experience the breakdown of someones social standard wall and get to know them for who they are. And honestly a lot of times, the people in the countryside are the most interesting. You can almost see wonder in their eyes as they talk about life and who they are.
And I know that this type of travel is not for everyone. But if you are willing to try, I promise you or at least hope, that you will have an amazing time and may discover more about Japan and perhaps yourself through the journey.
I know I have.
