$11,000 Airfare
With the summer month approaching our parents are planning to visit us in July. Our original plan had them flying to Japan with us the same day we moved. To help with carrying of bags, handling of the dogs and of course just to help make the transition easier. But due to logistical issues and the new obstacles put into place by Covid-19 those plans were scrapped.
Although that did throw a wrench into our plans it was kind of a building phase of our lives and I think personally helped us realize that we did this on our own, kind of.
In any case that brings me to todays post. After a long wait, lots of paperwork we finally had a date for our parents to visit; July. Changed the flights to reflect that, got the visas to make it easier for them to enter and we started planning. Unfortunately the original flight was cancelled due to flight restrictions so I was lucky enough to have Hawaiian Airlines help me change the flight with ease.
Which brings me to today. I got an email from Hawaiian stating that my parents flight got CANCELLED again. But they gave me instructions on how to change it etc. I followed the directions and started the process of change. Getting to the website had my jaw on the floor.
The prices to have my parents come to Japan have increased TEN times the amount that it originally was. Our original flight was $790.00 per person now its $5,000+ per person. Meaning for my parents to visit me; would be a $11,000 fare, for coach.
Needless to say I am not rich, our company is still getting on its feet so a $11,000 bill is not in the books. I reached out to Hawaiian and they are helping me resolve this but if I have to pay that, I just can’t; I really would have to say sorry to my mom who has been looking forward to this for years.
Now before I go on a rage and rant about Hawaiian etc, it’s not their fault. Japan is allowing tourist to enter but only at a capped amount. And each airline has to set aside X amount of seats as that is what they can permit. SO I get it, but it’s just crazy how this has affected the situation as a whole.
I am praying on everything I have, that they help us make the changes needed. We want to see our parents, they want to see us and it’s been something we have been waiting for since 2020. So here is to wishing us luck!
